Meet Lurdes

Ward 3 isn’t just where I live. It’s home.

I’ve lived in Ward 3 for more than 27 years and in Kitchener even longer. My husband and I raised our two children here, and over the years our neighbours have become some of our closest friends.For more than 20 years, I served on the Board of Directors of the Settler’s Grove Community Association, helping provide a voice for our neighbourhood and acting as a liaison with the City of Kitchener.I currently serve on the Board of Directors of my condominium corporation and support Breakthrough T1D Canada and the Canadian Cancer Society.Professionally, I bring more than 30 years of project management experience, including organization, negotiation and problem-solving.I know this community, I care about this community, and I’m ready to work for it.

Thoughtful Growth & Strong Neighbourhoods

Kitchener is growing, and good growth requires thoughtful planning. I will advocate for development that considers traffic, infrastructure, green space, affordability and the character of our existing neighbourhoods.Residents should have a meaningful voice in the decisions that shape their community.

MY PRIORITIES • Safety

Safer Streets & Communities

Everyone should feel safe in their neighbourhood - whether driving, walking, cycling or simply crossing the street. I will advocate for practical, evidence-based solutions to address speeding, traffic congestion and pedestrian safety, where they’re needed most. I will also work collaboratively with the City, Region, Waterloo Regional Police Service and community partners to ensure residents’ safety concerns are heard and addressed.Safer streets help build stronger neighbourhoods.

MY PRIORITIES • Affordability

Responsible Spending & Affordable Living

With the cost of everyday life rising, residents deserve a City Hall that treats every tax dollar with care. I will bring my 30+ years of project management experience to the council table - asking questions, weighing costs and benefits, and supporting responsible investments in the infrastructure and services our community relies on. Affordability also means planning wisely for growth today so residents aren’t left paying for poor decisions tomorrow.Good government means delivering value while keeping affordability in mind.

I believe strong communities are built when people feel connected - to their neighbours and to the decisions being made at City Hall.  As your Ward 3 Councillor, I will listen, communicate openly and create meaningful opportunities for community input. You deserve to understand what’s happening at City Hall, why decisions are being made and how your voice can make an impact. After more than 20 years of neighbourhood involvement, I know the value of bringing people together, listening to different perspectives and working toward positive outcomes.I won’t promise that every problem has an easy solution - or that we’ll always agree. What I can promise is that I will listen, do my homework, work toward positive outcomes and give this role my all.
